ICRL EU-UNPAD Director Visit to UNPAD Medical School March 2026

​Continuing yesterday visit on UNPAD, Prof. Kozo visit Functional Nanopowder University - Center of Excellence (FiNder U-CoE) Center in UNPAD Jatinangor Campus on March 10th 2026. While there, Prof. Kozo was also accompanied by ICRL EU-UNPAD Coordinator, Dr. Lia Faridah, and staff, M. Akbar Thufail, to have tour on the facility. The visiting group was received by the head of FiNder U-CoE, Prof. Dr. I Made Joni, M.Sc., and staff, Prof. Dr. Camelia Panatarani, M.Si., for brief discussion and introduction.

​After the discussion, Prof. I Made Joni showed the group around the facility to see the working lab of FiNder U-CoE such as top-down processing lab, bottom-up molecular lab, and battery-cell lab. Some of the nano technology and services have great potentials to do collaborations in the future.

​After finishing discussion with the FiNder U-CoE team, Prof. Kozo continued to the lecture building of UNPAD Faculty of Medicine. Prof. Kozo was invited to give another Guest Lecture to the UNPAD undergraduate medicine student about Ecological Approaches to Mosquito Diseases Control. Prof. Kozo also give some introductions about ICRL and other collaboration to the audience.

ICRL EU-UNPAD Visit to UNPAD Graduate School March 2026

​ICRL EU-UNPAD Directors, Prof. Kozo Watanabe, was visiting Padjadjaran University (UNPAD) in Bandung City on March 9th 2026. This visit was aimed to establish further collaboration between Faculty of Medicine of UNPAD and Ehime University. One of the agenda was to finalize the cross-appointment of Dr. Lia Faridah as a researcher on both UNPAD and Ehime University. This visit on the dean office of Faculty of Medicine was well received by Dr.med. Muhammad Hasan Bashari, dr., M.Kes. as the Research, Partnership, and Innovation Manager. Through this meeting, all sides are hoping to expand the coordination between UNPAD and Ehime University.

​Prof. Kozo visit was continued in UNPAD Graduate School on the afternoon with him giving a Guest Lecture. This Guest Lecture titled “Ecological Approaches to Mosquito Diseases Control” was attended by UNPAD Graduate students. In this lecture, Prof. Kozo discussed the performed method of mosquito vector controls in Philippines, Indonesia, and Japan that has collaborated with Ehime University.

ICRL EU-PU Group Discussion with Collaborators in Japan and Indonesia

On November 21st 2025, ICRL EU-UNPAD Director and Members was coordinating directly in Ehime University, Japan. This coordination also joined by Ehime University Indonesian Master student, Dewi Gustari, and Gadjah Mada University Faculty Member, Aryo Seto Pandu Wiranto,  about future and current research.

LaMer Symposium of 2025

LaMer Symposium of 2025 have similiar theme with JSPS Core-to-Core Symposium of 2025. The seminar was held on November 20th 2025, one day after second day of JSPS Symposium, with the speaker Prof. Hernando Bacosa from Mindanao State University-Iligan Institute of Technology, Philippines. His presentation titled "From the deep sea to the ambient air: Marine oil spill and atmospheric microplastic pollution in the Philippines".

JSPS Core-to-Core Symposium on One Health of 2025: Approaches to Chemical Risk Management

The symposium will deliberate on research directions to achieve sustainable development in
developing countries in South and Southeast Asia, with a focus on mitigating the impact of
various chemicals used in fields such as medicine, agriculture, aquaculture, and animal
husbandry on the environment and ecosystems, while safeguarding public health, increasing
crop, aquaculture, and livestock productivity, and ensuring people's livelihoods. The First day on November 18th 2025 was opened by introduction by ICRL EU-UNPAD Director, Prof. Kozo Watanabe, about JSPS Core-to-Core Symposium and its main goal.

Talk session then continued by ICRL EU-UNPAD Coordinator in Indonesia, Dr. Lia Faridah, with her presentation titled "Genetic Analysis of Dengue Vector Mosquitoes in Indonesia: Mosquito-to-Human Virus Transmission Pathways and Interstrain Competition of Symbiotic Bacterium Wolbachia Released for Dengue"

Also on the first day, poster presentation was held which ICRL EU-UNPAD staff, Muhammad Akbar Thufail, presented with his poster titled "Spatiotemporal Assessment of Dengue Detection in Urban Areas of Cimahi City, Indonesia​"

ICRL Padjadjaran University Training to Medical Students

On November 4th 2025, ICRL EU-UNPAD members and staff gave training to Medical Student of Padjadjaran University. This training was aimed to introduce and teach the basic lab work for detecting diseases in blood using qPCR method. This training also promote ICRL EU-PU to the bachelor degree students in ​Padjadjaran University.

​On the last day of visit to Yogyakarta on July 30th 2025, ICRL EU-UNPAD Team accompanied with team from Faculty of Biology went to Center for Environmental Health Laboratory (BBLKL) in Salatiga, Central Java. The team was welcomed by Head of General Administration, Ms. Ferry Jelitawati, to have introduction and discussion with team in the laboratory. Representative from BBLKL, Ms. Aryani Pujiyanti, gave introductory about work done in BBLKL.

After discussion and sharing session, the team were showed the facility in the BBLKL area such as mosquito reproduction facility, testing laboratory, and the Disease Vector and Reservoir Museum (DUVER). The visit was closed by discussion with Dr. Triwibowo Ambar Garjito from The National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) to discuss past vectors controls performed in every regions Indonesia.

Collaboration Discussion with Faculty of Biology and Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University

​ICRL EU-UNPAD Team activity on second day visit to Yogyakarta on July 29th 2025 was resumed with Collaboration Discussion with Faculty of Biology Gadjah Mada University. Representative from Entomology Laboratory Faculty of Biology, Dr. Sukirno and Dr. Hari Purwanto, gave presentation about profile of their laboratory. The research fields of the entomology lab largely focused on insect pathology and controls. These research fields have great ooportunity to create collaboration in the future with ICRL EU-UNPAD.

The discussion moved to Faculty of Medicine building to meet with Prof. dr. Eggi Arguni team on Faculty Medicine, Community Health and Nursing. Prof. dr. Eggi presented their group work on developing mosquito mitigation in Indonesia. Their work also collaborating with Yogyakarta Health Administrator and Insectarium in UGM Technopark to create and release Wolbachia mosquito. The evaluation of Wolbachia mosquito release in the Indonesian region would hava to be performed. Process and results of the evaluation could open more collaboration with ICRL EU-UNPAD.

ICRL EU-UNPAD Team Visit Yogyakarta City Health Department and Insectarium in UGM Technopark

Second day of ICRL EU-UNPAD team visit to Yogyakarta on July 29th 2025, the activity started with visiting Yogyakarta City Health Department to share information on Mosquito-borne virus in Indonesia. The Head of Disease Prevention and Control and Health Data and Information Systems Management Division, dr. Lana Uwanah, welcome the team and gave briefing on mosquito-borne disease mitigation in Yogyakarta City.

Health Administrator in Yogyakarta City is also collaborating with Gadjah Mada University in terms of vectors control and disease surveillance. Some mosquito-borne diseases that emerge in Yogyakarta City are mainly dengue and filariasis. However, there are also malaria cases detected in the region. But these cases usually carried to Yogyakarta city through returning visitor or worker from eastern Indonesia.

After finishing discussion with Yogyakarta City Health administrator, the team move to Gadjah Mada University Technopark (UGM Technopark). This areal complex is created to centralize the research center and prototype development of Gadjah Mada University members. One of the facility is Insectarium under supervision of Faculty of Medicine.  ​

The Insectarium was responsible to facilitate the reproduction of Wolbachia Aedes mosquito to be released to target city. One of the staff said that the facility have the capability to reproduce ten thousand of mosquito per week to meet the target for the release. The Insectarium facility also offering service for other company or government department for insecticide testing or other vector controls.

Guest Lecture on Mosquito-borne Disease Control in Gadjah Mada University

​Visiting ICRL EU-UNPAD, Prof. Kozo Watanabe, and UNPAD Satellite Lab Coordinator, Dr. Lia Faridah, gave guest lectures at Gadjah Mada University Yogyakarta at July 28th 2025. The Guest Lecture themed "Mosquito-borne Disease Control: Past and Present" address the issue of high morbidity and mortality to high proportion of world population caused by malaria, dengue fever, zika, and chikungunya.

​Prof. Kozo presented past research conducted in Philippine and Indonesia on Wolbachia observation on native aedes mosquito. His presentation titled “Wolbachia prevalence in natural populations of Aedes aegypti in Metro Manila and Yogyakarta” showed potential to develop and enhance biological vector controls on Aedes mosquito. ​Dr. Lia presentation titled ““Development of Sustainable Integrated Vector Management: Study in Cimahi City, West Java, Indonesia” showed molecular approach to overcame endemic dengue and filariasis cases in Cimahi city.

​This guest lecture also inviting Gadjah Mada University own Biologist, Dr. Raden Roro Upiek Ngesti Wibawaning Astuti, to present about Biolarvacide from natural plant in Indonesia through her presentation titled ““Evaluation of Eight Traditional Plants for Biolarvacide Against Aedes aegypti”. The last presenter of this guest lecture was from Faculty of Medicine Gadjah Mada University, Prof. dr. Eggi Arguni with her presentation titled “Aedes-Borne Arboviral Infection Control: Past and Present” to address overall effort of mitigating Mosquito-borne virus in Indonesia.
